The Beginning ...
I've been a card carrying deadhead since the early 70's, but after Jerry died I'd pretty much completely drifted away from the scene. Then about a year and a half ago, one of the guys I work with turned me on to the Dark Star Orchestra. Wow!!! Like a recovering addict, I was hooked again, and I started going to their shows whenever they were within driving distance (my wife, Barbara, doesn't fly, and I'm too cheap to spring for airline tickets anyway).
Like any addict worth his salt, once my original jones was eased, I started craving more. I found Splintered Sunlight, a Pennsylvania band, not the same level as DSO, but still mighty fine. That was o.k. for a while, but they don't come around all that often either, and Pa. gets to be a long drive in the middle of the week when you have to go to work in the morning. Last Friday, my wife and I went to the Old Town Tavern in Fredneck to check out a local area band called The Next Step. All in all it was mighty convenient, quite cost effective, they turned out to be real nice folks, and they put on a fine show - no down side at all.
So now I'm sittin' around thinkin' how much I miss playing this kind of music, when out of the blue I get a call from Eric, who says: "Hey, I just got a call from Bob, and he wants to put Rock Creek back together again."
