Rick's Rap - September 2005
Bob is traveling most of the month so Rock Creek Unplugged is pretty much on hold for the moment.
On the electric band front, Eric has arranged a practice at his house on 9/16 with a guitarist/vocalist that he knows. So far everyone is planning on being there.
This past weekend Barb and I and a bunch of friends went up to a place called River Bend Park in West Virginia, where one of the couples have a summer place. The weather was absoulutely gorgeous, unfortunately probably due to the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. We spent a lot of time drinking, talking, and just being lazy. We also got a boat ride on the Potomac, and got to tool around on some Yamaha scooters. Everyone brought their musical gear, and we did a lot of acoustic jamming (and a lot of drinking), and then did a full up electric gig on Saturday night. It was a long weekend for all of us, so we didn't have to come home until Monday. What a blast!
Before the practice on the 16th happened, Eric sent everyone an email saying that Crossfire, his other band, had broken up and he had joined a wedding band, and he didn't forsee having the time available to try and get the electric group up and running again. It's a shame about Crossfire, but I think Eric has been toying with the prospect of being in a wedding band for some time, and I hope it works out well for him. For now my Rock Creek energy is going to be pretty much concerned with making unplugged a going concern.
Bob sent an email saying he was available to hit College Perk on the 27th, so we did. It went pretty well, and Bob suggested we pick some tunes and proceed on with making a demo. Eric suggested we check with College Perk about playing a regular weekend gig. I said I'm comfortable with doing one thing at a time, after all I'm old, and I'm lazy. Eric's going to be out of town next week, so we'll email each other with our suggestions for demo tunes and Bob and I will do College Perk next Tuesday as a duo. I'm not making any promises, but while we're there, maybe we can also try and find out who we have to talk to for a weekend gig.
