Rick's Rap   - August 2007

      Bob and I seem to be a little bogged down at the moment. Some of the tunes we've recorded feel like we can (and should) do them better. When we've tried, however, sometimes they come out better, and sometimes they don't. In fact, sometimes they come out worse than the tracks we've just erased.

I think we may be up against a couple of things here:

rising expectations, which may be exceeding what we're actually capable of.

  • we initally started recording tunes we had been reheasing quite a bit, and had solid arrangements for, so the recording process was mainly doing takes until we got something we could live with. Now we're doing songs that we're kind of working out as we're recording, and sometimes we can't decide if we like the arrangement until we've listened to the mastered tracks a few times.
