Well, we spent most of our available time last month working on recording. We got six tunes in the can, but we haven't gotten a good mastering technique worked out yet. I'll keep working on it whenever I can, and in the meantime we'll keep plugging away at recording new tunes.

I took the last week off from recording with Bob because I'd reached a limit in how good I could master the tracks we've been making. I wrote a parametric EQ class and spent some time figuring out how to use it. I'm a tad hampered by not having a decent set of monitors interfaced to my pc. Right now I get as close as I can using headphones, then I burn the mix to a cd and drive around in my car listening to it. It's time consuming to say the least. I've got the guitars eq'd about as good as I can, but the vocals are still muddy. I'm going to hold off working on the vocals until I get some good monitors.
While I was working on the tracks I noticed that Bob doesn't have much of a problem with mic sybilance or 'plosives, but I certainly do. I priced pop screens at Musician's Friend and the prices are ridiculously high. A bit of Google'ing turned a number of folks that are using an embroidery hoop with some panty hose material that seems to work just fine. I'll give that a try as soon as possible and see if it helps.
Stay tuned,
Rick
